Obituary for Clifford "Doc" LaVerne Hartman

Worthington, Minnesota      Clifford LaVerne (Doc) Hartman, 79, passed away Sunday, oSeptember 17, 2006, at the Worthington Regional Hospital.     Born September 7, 1927, in Worthington, he was the son of Clifford Lawrence and Hazel Lukehart Hartman. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1945 and Worthington Jr. College in 1950.  Doc married Fay A. Doeden on April 4, 1950, in Worthington.  He entered the United States Navy and served as a HM 3rd Hospital Corpsman from 1945 to 1948, serving one year in China aboard the US Navy Hospital Ship Repose, AH 16.     After marriage, they made their home in Worthington.  He sold insurance for the Prudential Insurance Company, sold mobile homes in Storm Lake for one year, worked at Silverbergs for 15 years and as the Nobles County Veterans Service Officer and Civil Defense Director for 24 years, retiring in 1991.  He drove school bus for 25 years for Young and Hay and Ted Kempema.  He was a member of the Nobles County Historical Society for 17 years and served as President in 1976 and Treasurer for 14 years.  He was a Life Member of the American Legion, serving as the Post Service Officer and Athletic Manager for 32 years.  He was the Legionaire of the Year in 1988/1989.     He was a Life Member of the VFW and Post Service Officer and a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club.  He was also a member of the Church of Christ (Worthington Christian Church).  He served on the Nobles County 911 Advisory Committee for 22 years.  He served in the Civil Air Patrol Auxiliary of USAF, retiring after 17 years as a major.  He was a former Nobles Chordsmen and helped at the TAC Rummage Sale for many years.     Surviving are his wife, Fay, of Worthington; seven children, Douglas (Pam), of Princeton, MN, Scott, of St. Paul, MN, Cheryl Coronel, of Hephzibah, GA, Diane (Jeff) Meinders, of Worthington, Patricia (Ken) Henkels, of Worthington, Mike (Lisa), of Newberg, OR, and Lisa (Scott) Dodge, of Larchwood, IA; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and three sisters, Betty Lou, of Woodbury, MN, Charlene Benjamin, of Kenallville, IN, and Carole (LeRoy) Hoefker, of Worthington.  He was preceded in death by one son, Jon Bryce, his parents, and two brothers.     Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at the Worthington Christian Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Dan Beerman officiating.  Burial, with military rites, will be held prior to the service in the Worthington Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2006, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
