Obituary for Clasina Prins

Worthington, Minnesota      Clasina (Ruiter) Prins, was born September 18, 1912, in Boyden, IA.  She was the daughter of Dick & Wilhelmina (Rodenburgh) Ruiter.  Her family lived in Valley Springs, SD, through her grade school years and as a teenager, they moved to a farm near Chandler, MN.     On January 5, 1939, Clasina married Floris Prins.  They lived in Leota, MN, until 1949, when they moved to Chandler, MN.  In 1955, a fire destroyed their home and business, at which time they moved to Worthington, MN.  Floris and Clasina owned the S.W. Minnesota Livestock Auction for 45 years.  On sale day, everyone knew that Clasina would be in the office to make sure every customer was taken care of.  Clasina’s main focus throughout her life was her husband, children, and her extended family of brothers and sisters.  Her “Dutch touch” was appreciated by the people whose homes and businesses she cleaned.  She was a member of the Worthington Christian Reformed Church.  In September of 2003, she moved to the Homestead in Worthington.     Clasina enjoyed crocheting and embroidering.  She loved to cook and bake, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will miss the “grandma bars” and “grandma buns” that were always available when they visited.  Her life of service was always evident to her family.  Clasina died on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, Minnesota.     She is survived by three children, Garvin & Dianne Prins, Worthington, MN, Winora & Ronald Hallstrom, Worthington, MN, and Charlotte & Gary Rubingh, Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren, Pamela Bruse, Steven and Kevin Prins, Scott, Todd and Jeff Hallstrom, and Carla, Jeremy and Amy Rubingh; eleven great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Tracy Baartman, Grand Rapids, MI, and Johanna (John) Bothof, of Slayton, MN.     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floris in January of 1994; a daughter, Carla Lee; a granddaughter, Lorna Kae Hallstrom; two sisters, Jennie Uithoven and Betty DeBoer, and six brothers, Cornie, Art, Dick, Joe, Henry, and Sam Ruiter.     Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., at the Christian Reformed Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. LeRoy Christoffels officiating.  Clasina’s grandsons will serve as casket bearers and her granddaughters will serve as honorary bearers.  Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2007, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
