Obituary for Clara Jean Markman

Brewster, Minnesota
     Clara Jean Markman, 72, died on Friday, January 16, 2009, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
     Clara was born on December 29, 1936, in North Little Rock, MN, the daughter of Clarence J. and Helena Thelma (Thiesse) Hayenga.  She moved to Worthington, MN, and worked various jobs until settling on a career in the floral industry.  Clara married Ron Markman on April 6, 1958, in Worthington.  She was a charter member of the Fireman’s Auxiliary and a member of the VFW Auxiliary.  Clara enjoyed fishing and bean walking.  She was the best night crawler hunter around.  Clara was also an avid race car enthusiast and enjoyed playing bingo and board games.  She was known to family and friends as “Grandma Roger” and could always be heard whistling a tune.
     Clara is survived by her husband, Ron of Brewster, MN; three daughters, Sonja (Greg) Sletto, Sandi (Bruce) Heidemann, and Cheryl (Tom) Johnson, all of Sioux Falls, SD; one son, Phil (Peggy) Markman of Jackson, MN; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; three brothers, Harlan (Lanore) Hayenga, of Windom, MN, Roger (Deb) Hayenga, of Arnolds Park, IA, and Ellison (Lynn) Hayenga, of Sibley, IA, and one sister, Paulette Hayenga, of Windom, MN.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Delores Gross, and an infant brother.
     Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. Wayne Krohe officiating.  Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

 Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Family prefers memorials to Chronic Disease Fund.
