Obituary for Clair Francis Nusser

Clair Francis Nusser passed away on August 27, 2019 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Clair was born November 1, 1924 in Heron Lake, Minnesota to Herman and Adeline Nusser; only son with two sisters Lorraine and Mary Ann. He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Addie, his wife Dorothy, his sister Mary Ann, nephew Jackie and niece Jean. He was Salutatorian of his class and graduated from Brewster High School Class of 1942 in Brewster, Minnesota. Clair went into the Army in 1944 and served as a Medic in WW II. He married Dorothy Lefto on February 22, 1952 and lived in Brewster, MN where he worked first for an electrician and then for the Brewster Elevator. He then drove a bulk refueling truck delivering fuel in Southwestern Minnesota first for Skelly Oil and then Nobles County Co-Op Oil Company. After retirement he drove a Medi-Van transporting patients to various medical centers in Minnesota and Sioux Falls, SD. He also drove for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Throughout all these years Clair was active in the Brewster American Legion where he was a Brewster Commander and Regional Commander. He called bingo and tended bar and was a custodian for the Brewster Legion Hall. He was active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster as well. He was a devoted Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. In 2013 he moved into Touchmark at All Saints Retirement Center in Sioux Falls, SD living out his years participating in numerous activities with new friends and his family.
He is survived by his children, Margaret/Peggy (Geoff) Gerlach of Omaha, NE; Kay (Roger) Scheibe of Sioux Falls, SD; Curt of Irving, TX; Gail (Jon) Frey of Chatham, NJ: and Jeff (Kim) of Sedalia, MO. His grandchildren are Carrie, Lauren, Aaron, Lucas, Emily, Sam, Aly, AJ, Zach, and Maegan, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He is also survived by his sister Lorraine Schmitz; Brewster MN and numerous nieces, nephews; great nieces, and great nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial, with military honors, will be held in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Brewster.
Memorials will be directed to the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD for homeless veterans in need of medical services.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
