Obituary for Carol Jean Tomford

Carol Jean (Erwin) Tomford was born June, 2 1940 in Worthington, MN the daughter of Ollie and Marvena (Wise) Erwin. Carol graduated from Worthington High School and earned her certification as a mental health practitioner through Southwestern Mental Health Center. She had many talents which led to occupations she worked at including Campbell Soup Company, Unitog uniform as a Supervisor, Southwestern Mental Health Center, The Achievement Center and CCSI. She enjoyed helping people in any way she could to develop living skills and achieve their life goals. She married the love of her life, Raymond Tomford on May 23, 1959 at Church of Christ in Worthington, MN. Carol and Ray shared 55 years of joy and love. Carol had one daughter, Jenine (Mark) Bixby; three grandchildren, Mark (Ann) Bixby, Shanee (Josh) Feller and Justin (Jessica) Bixby; 9 great grandchildren, Madyson, Paige, Rylan and Caycee Bixby, Desmond Bixby, Raygan and Brayden Feller and Ariana and Kali Bixby.

      The highlight of her life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She treasured their times of camping, picnics, garage sales, family reunions, chatting with friends, shopping, especially for her great grandchildren, and decorating her home. Carol was a member of Al-Anon and helped many people throughout the years take One Day At A Time. Carol will be remembered for her laughter, love, she shared with many and developed lasting friendships, kind, caring nature, big hugs and heart. She joined her heavenly father on July 25, 2014 after a courageous battle against breast cancer

      Carol is survived by her husband, Raymond Tomford; daughter, Jenine (Mark) Bixby; brothers, Gary (Jo) Erwin, Randy (Pam) Erwin, Doug (Mary) Erwin, Steve Erwin and Richie Erwin and many nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie and Marvena Erwin and son, Rancy Tomford.

      Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 29, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 30, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Worthington Christian Church in Worthington, MN with Pastor Doug White officiating. Burial will be at Worthington Memorial Gardens.
