Obituary for Byron Leslie Christoffer

Byron Leslie Christoffer of rural Round Lake, MN passed away on Sunday, February 10th, 2019 surrounded by his family.
Byron was born on August 23rd, 1945 to Melvin & Marcella (Becker) Christoffer in Worthington, MN. Byron was raised on the family farm in rural Okabena. He attended grade school at St. Paul’s Lutheran, Rost Township and graduated from Okabena High School in 1963. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Rost Township where he was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.
Byron joined the Army National Guard in the fall of 1963. He was honorably discharged in 1965. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Amendt of rural Lakefield, MN on August 28th, 1965. He always claimed to have picked Kathy out in the 3rd grade. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Kimberly and Dana.
Byron’s first years of employment were with Okabena Farm Supply and then with Monsanto of Brewster, MN as plant operator and manager. Farming was in his heart, so in 1967 Byron and Kathy purchased their first farm southeast of Brewster. Byron was passionate about working hard and in addition to farming he started Christoffer Construction. He took great pride in his work and thoroughly enjoyed it. Byron was a partner in the first wind energy project in Jackson County. Since then he has developed Ewington Energy Systems, LLC and helped develop South Fork Energy, LLC.
Byron was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in the year 2000, prostate cancer in 2010 and pancreatic cancer in 2015. His survival was so astonishing to the Mayo Clinic doctors they often called him a walking miracle and nick named him their “poster child”.
Byron and Kathy’s family were very close and made many wonderful memories together at home and at their northern MN cabin. Byron’s pride and joy in life was his wife, his daughters and their families. He enjoyed singing, hunting and was an avid fisherman. He especially cherished the times spent while taking his grandchildren fishing. Byron was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Kathy. Two daughters, Kimberly (Trent) Schumacher and Dana (Kevin) Schmid, seven grandchildren, Zachary Schumacher and fiancé Logan Peterson, Hailey Schumacher, Hannah Schmid and Jordan Hall, Dakotah Schmid & fiancé Ashley Hendrickson, Sarah Schmid and fiancé Eric Haberman, Leah and Isaiah Schmid. Two brothers, Dennis Christoffer and Dale Christoffer and their wives and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin & Marcella Christoffer and his father and mother-in-law Wilbur & Delia Amendt.
Blessed be his memory.
