Obituary for Blanche Vay Heath

Worthington, Minnesota

     Blanche Vay Heath, 92, was born on August 23, 1915, in Milford, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Elizabeth Rusch Schlarbaum.  Growing up her family lived on farms in both northern and southern Minnesota and also for a time near Harris, Iowa.  It was while living near Round Lake, Minnesota, that she met and married Harold Heath on April 29, 1934.  After their marriage, they lived in Round Lake and four daughters were born to them.
     Blanche was a devoted wife, mother/grandmother, and, homemaker.  She loved to collect, repair, dress, and create dolls.  Blanche loved to doodle, sketch and make crafts.  She could fry an incredible pan of fresh bullheads, make great pie, and made the best instant coffee in the world!  Blanche was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.  She served as a volunteer for the Hospital Auxiliary for many years.  Blanche was one of the original tenants at Okabena Towers and made it her home for 29 years, making many good friends along the way.  While living there, she enjoyed helping out with the upkeep of the flowers and the picture albums and scrapbooks.  She spent a short time at South Shore Care Center before going to the hospital.  Blanche died on Monday, March 17, 2008, at the Worthington Regional Hospital.  She will be remembered for her strong, steadfast faith and her unconditional love to her family.  Blanche was the best mom in the world.
     Blanche is survived by three daughters, Mary (Larry) Peterson, of Tyrone, New Mexico, Janice (Art) Moore, of Pequot Lake, Minnesota, and Sandra (Stan) Walker, Jr., of Lismore, Minnesota; two sisters, Jessie Nickel, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Bonnie (Fred) Hemenway, of Park Rapids, Minnesota; one brother, Alfred Schlarbaum, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and a legacy of 51 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; daughter, Nancy Mastbergen; son-in-law, Marvin Mastbergen; great grandson, Andy Mastbergen; great great granddaughter, Alyssa Murray; parents, Edwin and Elizabeth Schlarbaum, and her sister, Pearl (Anderson) Eggleston.
     Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 21, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Jim Krapf officiating.  Casket bearers will be Rodney Mastbergen, Micheal Mastbergen, Dennis Mastbergen, Jeff Mastbergen, Dale Moore, Mark Kostuch, Kevin Kremin, and Jason Tuin.  Blanche’s other grandchildren will serve as honorary bearers.  Burial will be in the Round Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington and on Friday, March 21, 2008, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington.
