Obituary for Beth Nelson

Brewster, MN

      Beth E. Nelson passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at the age of 93 at the Windom Area Hospital. She was born on March 14, 1922, in Alba Township, Jackson County on the McNab homestead to Andy and Agnes (Swenson) McNab.

      Beth graduated from Brewster High School in 1939 and Mankato State University in 1941. She taught school in District #126 in Jackson County, Ceylon, Mora, and Lakefield before spending 38 years teaching in Brewster. She retired in 1989.

      Beth was married to Harris Nelson on January 30, 1947, in Brewster and they celebrated the birth of their son, Tony Nelson on February 17, 1948.

      Beth was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Brewster, a life NEA member, a charter member of Alpha Sigma Chapter, Alpha Delta Kappa, member of the American Legion Auxiliary #464, the Worthington Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Worthington Garden Club, Hersey Cemetery Association, and the Brewster Community Club. She was also an avid gardener, bird watcher, and reader.

      Beth will be remembered and missed by her sister-in-law, Joyce McNab; many nieces and nephews and their families; Tony’s longtime special companion, Corby, and many friends and former students. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harris Nelson; son, Tony Nelson; parents, Andy and Agnes McNab, and brother, Stuart McNab.

      Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 11, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Bonnie Roys and Pastor Robert Bartlett officiating. Honorary bearers are Larry Nelson, Rick Nelson, John Nelson, George Nelson, Darrel Peterson, Bob McNab, and Lee Anderson. Burial will be in the Hersey Cemetery near Brewster, MN.

      Visitation will be held on Monday, January 11, 2016, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
