Obituary for Barbara Jean Hagen

Barbara Jean Hagen, age 88, of Worthington met her Lord and Savior on July 14, 2020. She was born May 18, 1932 to Glen and Viola (Koepsell) Tripp. Barb graduated, third in her class, in 1950 from Worthington High School. She then attended Mankato State Teachers’ College achieving an elementary education certificate in 1952. After graduating she taught in the Worthington and Heron Lake school districts.
She married Richard Tow in 1954 and the couple were raising two sons (Robin and Daniel) and a daughter (Leesa) when Richard passed away from a heart attack. She married Paul Hagen in 1964 and to this union a third son (Bryan) was born.
Barb was a woman of many talents. She co-founded the first nursery school in Worthington, Hi Ho, with good friend and fellow teacher Donna Peters. She also founded Romper Ranch Nursery School, was an assistant manager for Michael’s and Burke’s, and later became a successful realtor for Johnson Builders and Realtors. She finished her working career at Sterling Drug.
Barb enjoyed numerous hobbies. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and having coffee with the “Perkins Pretties” every morning. She loved home decorating and each of her residences were beautifully decorated, especially during each holiday. She enjoyed photography, dabbled in both oil and water-color painting, and was an avid golfer. Barb was a wonderful mother and a huge supporter of her children’s activities. She drove them throughout the Midwest to many quarter horse shows and sporting events. She also was one of the mothers who started the first Worthington Wrestling Club. She was an active member of PEO for 45 years.
Barb is survived by her children Robin Tow of Andover, MN; Daniel (Paula) Tow of Independence, KS; and Bryan (Susan) Hagen of Worthington, MN; her grandchildren, Travis (Brandy) Tow of Independence, KS; Trevor (Elizabeth) Tow of Vass, NC; Turner (McKenzie) Hagen of Omaha, NE; Lauren (Brandon) Kelley of Sheridan, WY; and Carson Hagen of Fargo, ND; and her seven great grandchildren, Sierra and Zowie Flanders, Tatum, Bryier, Morgan and Wyatt Tow, and Laramie Hagen.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and daughter Leesa Riordan.
The family would like to thank the Crossroads Care Center, Beth Prins, and Irma Voss for the exceptional care that Barb received during her battle with Alzheimer’s.
