Obituary for Barbara Haig Steinmetz

Worthington, Minnesota Barbara Haig Steinmetz, 93, was born on April 8, 1913, in Bloomfield, Indiana, the daughter of Alpha and Pearl McGee Haig. As a young girl, she played violin with her sister at the silent movies. Barbara attended DePauw University and received her bachelor’s degree in music and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Barbara married Frank Steinmetz, Jr. on June 3, 1939, in St. Louis, Missouri. They lived in Minneapolis, MN, Clinton, IA, and Cincinnati, OH, before moving to Worthington, Minnesota. Barbara lived at the Meadows in Worthington until moving to the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in November of 2005. She volunteered for the Manna Food Pantry. Barbara was also a member of PEO, church circle, hospital auxiliary, and the Elks Lodge. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed painting. Barbara died on Sunday, May 14, 2006, at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, Minnesota. Barbara is survived by one son, Frank (Barbara) Steinmetz, III, of Loveland, Ohio; three grandsons, Frank Steinmetz, IV, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Greg (Kathy) Steinmetz, of Columbus, Ohio, and Jeff Steinmetz and his friend, Jennifer, of Des Moines, Iowa, and two great grandsons, Nicholas and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in January of 1978, her parents, and one sister, Mary Ruth Haig. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2006, at 1:00 p.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Jim Krapf officiating. Burial will be held in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2006, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington. Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
