Obituary for Arthur Wassenaar

Worthington, Minnesota Arthur Wassenaar, 84, was born on April 7, 1922, in Sibley, Iowa, the son of John and Ada Dek Wassenaar. He attended country school near Bigelow, Minnesota. Art married Nellie Katherine DeVries on December 29, 1943, in Bigelow. After their marriage, they farmed near Bigelow. They wintered in Florida for thirteen years. In 1991, they moved to Worthington, Minnesota. He became a resident of the Sibley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sibley, Iowa, in March of 2006. Art served as a deacon of the Bigelow Christian Reformed Church and was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Worthington. He enjoyed miniature tractor pulls, gardening, and fishing. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Art died on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at the Sibley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sibley. Art is survived by his wife, Katherine, of Sibley, Iowa; three daughters, Bea & Tony Roskam, of Ankeny, Iowa, Della & Jim Boltjes, of Brewster, Minnesota, and Bev & Jay Andringa, of Sheldon, Iowa; six grandchildren, Barb & Jeff Cupp, Brian & Rhonda Robyn, Krista & Dave Pendergrass, Laura Boltjes, Jodi & Joe Kraemer, and Jason Andringa; seven great grandchildren, Ashley & Alicia Cupp, Tyler, Courtney, and Austin Robyn, and Abby & Lane Kraemer; one sister, Jennette & Martin Kramer, and two sisters-in-law, Doris Wassenaar and Gertrude Wassenaar. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, an infant sister, and one son-in-law. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., at the Christian Reformed Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. LeRoy Christoffels officiating. Casket bearers will be Brian Robyn, Jeff Cupp, Joe Kraemer, and Jason Andringa. Honorary bearer will be Dave Pendergrass. Burial will be held prior to the service at 9:15 a.m., at the Worthington Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 12, 2006, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
