Obituary for Arnold Jay Renken

Worthington, MN

     Arnold Jay Renken, age 73, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at his home in Worthington, MN.

     Arnold was born April 11, 1942 in George, IA to Otto C. and June (Kruger) Renken. He started his career in agriculture early when he went to live with his Uncle and Aunt, George and Nancy Blume. He enjoyed telling how he started in the field working horses and shortly before his retirement he was driving tractors with computers and GPS. He worked as a farmer and truck driver all his life. He enjoyed working hard and took pride in a job well done. He was a Chevy man and loved Chevy trucks and race cars. He enjoyed watching sports of any kind.

     Arnold married Evelyn Ann Ling on November 19, 1963 at the Methodist Church in Bigelow, MN. Arnold loved his daughters Andrea, Michelle, and Valerie. He was also the proud grandfather to Nick, Sam, Kassidee and Amanda. His great granddaughter-Kailynn--was a recent joyful addition to his life.

     Arnold was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2009. He received a bone marrow transplant from his sister Vianne Renken Pendleton in the spring of 2010. Throughout his illness he received encouragement from his siblings Bob, Mike, Vic, Vianne, Veleda and Leesa His wife, Evelyn, was by his side daily through his many treatments, hospitalizations and finally home hospice care. His daughters were a constant help and comfort to him. The family thanks all the others who have kept Arnold and his family in their prayers and who have supported them.
     Arnold is preceded in death by his parents Otto and June and his special uncle and aunt--George and Nancy. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Evelyn; his daughters Andrea Renken of Worthington, Michelle Dressler of Big Lake, MN (Dean) and Valerie Johnson of Faribault, MN (Gary); his grandsons Nick and Sam Dressler; granddaughters Kassidee and Amanda Johnson and great-granddaughter Kailynn Duffney. He had numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

     Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at 11:30 a.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN. Burial will be at a later date.

     Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
