Obituary for Alvin Eugene Aielts

Alvin Eugene Aielts, 70, (November 1, 1948-March 4, 2019) led a simple life taking great joy in his family and friends. He was preceded in death by parents Ailt and Henrietta (Risius) Aielts and his wife of 28 years, Linda Marie Aielts.
Alvin and Linda were well matched. Both asked little of others, but were always ready to give to others. Alvin continued that spirit of generosity after Linda’s death. He always had time for a visit, for coffee at Perkins, and to help anyone who asked.
He spent his life in the Worthington area, working for car dealers doing various jobs around the lots and in salvage yards. A self-described “motor head,” he always had a collection of vehicles in the process of being rehabilitated. He was a commercial driver for the Worthington Globe, and was well known for his smile and contagious enthusiasm along his route in Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota. In off hours he did yard and clean-up work whenever asked.
Small things made Alvin happy. His toy tractors and toy car collection. His collection of license plates used to line a ceiling. The small rocks he would pick up and take home as mementos. And the many cats he gave a home to.
In his final illness, he enjoyed the many cards, phone calls, and good wishes from friends. He was especially thankful to those who came forward to give homes to his cats. He asked that anyone who wished to give a memorial consider the Southwest Crisis Center ( that helps families facing domestic violence, or give to their favorite animal rescue organization.
Alvin is survived by his sisters, Marilyn Nienkerk (Richfield, MN) and Carol Bain (Colman, SD); his niece Michelle Marotzke and son Tyler; his niece Marie (Bill) Shores and children Ashley, Cody, and Isabel; and his special friend Sally Zuehlke.
Alvin’s favorite singing group was Led Zeppelin. Even in his last days, he repeated their motto, “Rock on.”
Friends and family will gather to visit and share memories at Benson Funeral Home on Friday, March 8, 2019. At a graveside service officiated by Matt Hallstrom of Abundant Life Tabernacle, he will be buried next to Linda at Sunset Rest Cemetery in Rushmore, MN.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is coordinating the arrangements.
