Obituary for Althea Febus

Althea Kramer Febus, 99 passed away peacefully on May 9, 2020. Althea’s husband, Walter, has been waiting ever so patiently to welcome his bride home. Her eternal wedding day is here and Jesus has prepared the most beautiful banquet table for her homecoming. Althea was very committed to her faith and was a long time member of the Worthington Christian Reformed Church.
She was born in Orange City, Iowa on January 13, 1921 to Gertrude and Fred Kramer. She was the last of the founders of Febus Dairy, which operated in Southwest Minnesota for many years. Febus Dairy was eventually bought by Foremost Dairies, a large National Dairy. Althea was the bookkeeper for Febus Dairy for many years.
She loved the outdoors and spent time caring for her plants and garden and spent many hours in the fall canning the fruits of her garden to be preserved for delicious meals during the cold winter months. She was busy in her yard, raising a family, maintaining her home (it was spotless), working for the dairy, helping with the family farm and many other responsibilities. When her husband, Walter, would come in the house after work, he would tease a million dollar smile from her.
Walter and Althea enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. They also took several international trips. They enjoyed spending winters in California in retirement for ten years. Walter and Althea worked together as sales representatives for the Thomas B. Murphy Company after Walter retired from the dairy business. They marketed calendars and other promotional items to area businesses. After Walter passed away, Althea continued the business. She enjoyed meeting with business people and was honored by the Thomas Murphy Co. as the top sales representative for the region. She has spent the last several years in a retirement home in Excelsior, MN.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Febus. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Wesley Febus (Mary), Ronald Febus and special friend (Tricia), Elaine Febus Winter (Mark). She was blessed with eleven grandchildren: Aven, Rue, Remi, Carina, Marika, Alicia, Jason, Jeffrey W., Jeffrey F., Marissa, and Gina. She was also blessed with fifteen great grandchildren. Althea is also survived by her sisters, Tracy Fransen and Gladys Halma and her brother, Richard Kramer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Gertrude Kramer, her father and mother-in-law Frank and Grietje (Maggie) Febus. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and spouses Martin (Jeanette) Kramer, John (Helen, Bertha) Kramer, brother-in-laws Arthur Halma, Gerrit Fransen, brother-in-laws and spouses Ben Febus (Mary), Gerrit Febus (Vera), sister-in-laws and spouses, Estella VanderLaan (John), Wilhelmina Menninga (Ben), Ann Zandt (Harry) and sister-in-laws Elizabeth Febus and Raeann Kramer.
Her family will carry forward many fond memories of Althea.
