Obituary for Allen Alfred Burnham

Worthington, Minnesota      Allen Alfred Burnham, 83, was born on October 27, 1923, in Worthington, Minnesota, the son of James Clinton and Florence Hunter Burnham.  He farmed for a short time with his father and then served in the United States Army in Korea.  Allen married Katherine Heidebrink on September 19, 1948, at the First Baptist Church in Worthington.  After their marriage, they settled on the farm and lived there until moving into the nursing home in 2001.  He also worked at Livestock Energy and then Hubbard Milling for a number of years and the Livestock Barn for a time.  Allen was an avid 4-H member and leader, being named into the 4-H Hall of Fame and served on the Nobles County Fair Board for 24 years.  He was involved with draft horses and enjoyed giving rides on bobsleds and wagons at special events.  Allen died on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, Minnesota.     Allen is survived by four children, Donna McPeak, of Glendale, California, Charles (Judy) Burnham, of Bigelow, Minnesota, Ruth (Allan) VanEssen, of Paradise, California, and Glen (Lisa) Burnham, of Worthington; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and four sisters, Mary (Lawrence) Asprey, of Dodge Center, Minnesota, Florence Wahl, of Mora, Minnesota, Joyce (Dean) Funk, of Tempe, Arizona, and Carol (Don) Rutzen, of Brewster, Minnesota.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, on February 18, 2007, one son, Roger, one brother, one sister, a grandson, Aaron McPeak, and his parents.     Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Douglas Knudtson officiating.  Allen’s grandchildren, Chuck McPeak, Brian VanEssen, Sam Peterson, Nikki Singleterry, Jeani Harms, Amber Neva, Dawna Burkard, and Megan Burnham will serve as honorary bearers.  Burial of his cremains will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday, June 29, 2007, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, Minnesota.
