Obituary for Alice Rosalie Hall

Alice R. Hall
July 27, 1918 --- June 7, 2020

Alice Rosalie Hall, Worthington, passed from this world into God’s eternal kingdom on June 7, 2020, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. On Saturday, October 3rd, at 1:30 p.m., a Memorial Service celebrating her life of nearly 102 years will be held at First Lutheran Church, 1200 4th Ave., Worthington, with the Rev. Jeanette McCormick, officiating. Alice’s grateful family invites the public to attend this service. There will be no graveside committal as her ashes were interred earlier this past Summer.
Alice was born on July 27, 1918, on the family farm, rural Dodge Center MN, the first of five daughters born to Albert and Alma (Marquardt) Wilke. She was baptized, and later confirmed her faith, at Grace Lutheran Church, Dodge Center.
Alice graduated from high school at Kasson MN. Among her many school activities, she played Guard/Defense on the girls’ basketball team. Following graduation, Alice studied Bookkeeping at the Minneapolis School of Business, earning a two-year degree.
On November 7, 1942, Alice was united in marriage with Ellsworth H. Hall of Bernadotte MN. They were married at the Wilke family home near Kasson, having first met at an area creamery where Alice was employed as a bookkeeper and Ellsworth as a butter maker.
Over the course of their life together, Alice and Ellsworth lived in Glenville MN, and then, for approximately twenty years, in Blooming Prairie MN, where Ellsworth was the manager of the local co-op creamery. Two children, Gretchen and Gregory, were born to them during these years.
In 1969 the couple moved to Worthington where for three years they owned and operated the Sunset Motel. Alice would go on to work at a number of local and area businesses, including the Sather Cookie Co., Round Lake; Norwest Bank; Crossroads Care Center; and K-Mart. For a number of years Alice had a retail booth at Martin’s Antiques. Her most lengthy employment, however, was in the business office at the Worthington Regional Hospital.
Alice was a faithful and active church member in every community where she lived, as a Sunday School teacher and participant in ladies’ ministry. In Worthington she was also involved in the association of Business and Professional Women, as a member of the Elks Club, and of Ransford Chapter #43 of the Eastern Star.
Throughout her life, Alice enjoyed flower gardening, collecting antiques, playing 500 in many card clubs, and spending time with family and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Alma; by her husband, Ellsworth, in January of 1984; and by her younger sisters: Phyllis Stake, Mabel Wilke, Clarrene Ballard, and Patricia Zitzmann.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Gretchen (Freddy) Moreno, of Edina MN; by her son, the Rev. Gregory (Penny) Hall, of St. James MN; by her grandsons, Grant (Rita) Hall, of Farmington MN and their children, Axl and Londyn; and Mark (Katherine) Hall, of Edina MN and their children, Natalie and Lucy. Mourning her passing also are a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.
Monetary gifts in memory of Alice may be directed to First Lutheran Church; to the Sunset Hospice Cottage of Worthington; or to another church, charity, or cause of one’s choosing. May the Lord forever bless the life and memory of his servant, Alice R. Hall.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
