Obituary for Ailt Walter Aielts

Worthington, MN

Ailt Walter Aielts, age 94, died on Friday, October 24, 2014, at Country View Manor in Sibley, IA. He was born to Will and Nettie Aielts on October 15, 1920. Three siblings died at or shortly after birth and his remaining sister Vivian Gruis died in December of 1986. He grew up in Reading and Rushmore, riding his pony to country school and walking home at night since the pony knew the way back home in the morning. He farmed with his father and then independently on his farm between Bigelow and Rushmore until his retirement. He was very proud that the family farm attained Century Farm status in 2014. He met Henrietta Aielts at a basket social and after courtship they married at a country church south of Rushmore on July 30, 1943. In addition to farming he had a mechanics business at his farm workshop. When people could not fix something, they knew he could and always did figure them out. In addition to working on automobiles and farm equipment, he put his ingenuity to work inventing products to solve problems. He was very handy with woodworking. Countless friends and relatives have their names in wood from his scroll saw work. He and Henrietta lived on the farm until November 2011 when they moved to The Meadows assisted living in Worthington. Ailt and Henrietta enjoyed many winters among friends in Mission, TX. They liked visiting with people and always had the coffee pot on. On June 19, 2014, Ailt and Henrietta moved to Country View Manor in Sibley where Henrietta entered hospice care and died on July 2, 2014. Ailt was lost without her after almost 71 years of marriage even though everyone at Country View was very good to him. He celebrated his 94th birthday on October 15 with a lovely party, became ill on October 22 and his wish to be with Henrietta came true on October 24.

Ailt is survived by daughter Marilyn (Robert) Nienkerk, son Alvin Aielts and daughter Carol Bain; granddaughters Michelle Marotzke and Marie (Bill) Shores; great grandchildren Tyler Van Eps, Ashley and Cody Fults and Isabel Shores and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Henrietta, daughter-in-law Linda Aielts and son-in-law Kenneth Bain.

Services will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, MN, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Jason Cunningham will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery near Rushmore, MN.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
