Obituary for Aileen Johanna Watson

Worthington, MN

     Aileen Johanna Peters Watson, 100, of Worthington, died June 13, 2010, at Sanford Regional Hospital, Worthington.
     Aileen was born May 25, 1910, the daughter of Peter and Dena Doyen Peters. She lived briefly in Grundy Center, Iowa, before moving back to Worthington. Aileen graduated from Worthington High School in 1928. She married Donald Watson in May 1928. Their son, Jack Dennis Watson, was born August 1, 1929. Aileen worked at Harper’s Fashion Shop for 6 years, and then moved to Berkeley, CA, where she assisted with the WWII war effort by working in the shipyards–she was a “Rosie the Riveter” in real life! She returned to Worthington and worked for the Daily Globe as a bookkeeper for 35 years. Aileen was preceded in death by her parents, brother, son Jack, daughter-in-law Gwendolyn Schafer Watson, sister Phyllis Peters Welch and her long time dear friend, Dena Jacobs. She is survived by her three granddaughters, Gwen (Honey Bear) (Scott) Watson Dallas, of Redwood City, CA, Jill Denise Watson, of Newnan, GA, and Cindy Marie (Walter) Watson Roth, of Longwood, FL, and her Minnesota family, Tillie Jacobs, Janet and Carl Smid, Randy, Joyce, Laura and Sarah Jacobs, and by fourteen great grand kitties.
     Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 8:30 a.m., at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Cemetery in Rushmore, MN. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. James Krapf officiating.
