Obituary for Adeline Mae Larson

Adeline Mae (Iverson) Larson, age 95, was born on July 1, 1925, at home in rural Farwell, Douglas County, Minnesota and lived her entire life in Minnesota. She was the daughter of Simon Melvin and Helen Martha (Westberg) Iverson. She spent her early life in rural Farwell and Lowry. Adeline graduated from Kensington High School as valedictorian, then completed her Teacher’s College in Glenwood. She loved her time as a teacher in Alexandria. She was so proud of the car she was able to purchase on her own in her early 20’s.
Adeline married Norman Leo Larson on November 9, 1947, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. They farmed in Bigelow Township until retiring from farming in 1975. After they moved from the farm into Worthington, they co-managed Okabena Towers and Adeline worked as an aide at South Shore Care Center and coordinated the volunteers at First Lutheran Church. Living out her faith, Adeline served on the founding board of Home of Hope. In 2013, Norman and Adeline moved into Ecumen Meadows in Worthington, where Adeline lived until her death.
Adeline was a devoted mother and guiding force for each of her children. Her love of family easily extended to her daughters-in-law and sons-in-law and then grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is remembered for her involvement in First Lutheran Church, 4-H, Bigelow and Worthington schools. As refugees and immigrants moved to Worthington to start new lives, she was the first to welcome and demonstrate God’s love for all. She had an inquisitive mind and loved to read, she always had two or three magazines and newspapers open. She enjoyed playing cards and board games. Her open mind and accepting nature made her a wonderful traveling companion on the girls trips with her daughters. Adeline died on Friday, Nov 13, 2020, at her residence in Worthington, MN. She will be remembered for her warm, welcoming smile.
Adeline is survived by two sons, Lyle (Michelle) Larson of Boise, ID, and Phil Larson of Rochester, MN; two daughters, Elaine Larson (Wally Stukel) of Alexandria, MN, and Miriam (John) Brondello of Lafayette, CA; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Norman, three sisters, Helen, Doris and Myrtle, and one nephew, Keith Larson.
Internment at Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery and celebration of life will be held at a later date. More specific details are pending COVID-19 restrictions.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church in Worthington.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
