Obituary for Adela Mae Boltjes

Brewster, MN

Adela “Della” Mae (Wassenaar) Boltjes was born in Worthington on March 23, 1947, to Art and Katherine Wassenaar of Bigelow, MN. She attended grade school in Bigelow then graduated from Worthington High School. She married Jim Boltjes on November 1, 1974. After their marriage they moved to an acreage near Brewster. She worked as a bookkeeper for Rickbeil’s until the birth of their daughters. Della took on several hats while the girls were growing up. She worked in the Worthington sale barn kitchen, babysat the neighbors’ children, led craft and cooking programs for the Brewster Community Education program, and sold many of her famous homemade pies. She was later employed by the Brewster Elementary School helping with preschool and became a paraprofessional. She retired in 2012.

Della was an active member of the Worthington Christian Reformed Church. Throughout the years she volunteered her time to Calvinettes, the church library, and leading women’s bible studies. She also volunteered regularly at the Bibles for Missions Thrift Store. She enjoyed gardening, baking, crafts, biking, and spending time with her six grandchildren.

She passed peacefully at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington on Sunday, June 22, 2014, with her family near.

Della is survived by her husband, Jim; two daughters, Krista (Dave) Pendergrass, of Dublin, Texas, Laura (Toby) Berry, of Steger, Illinois; six grandchildren, Finnian, Willem, Bryce, and Malachi Pendergrass, Ellie and Max Berry; and two sisters, Bea Roskam, of Ankeny, Iowa, and Bev (Jay) Andringa, of Sheldon, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the Worthington Christian Reformed Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Adam Eisenga officiating. Family burial will precede the service at Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Worthington. Casket bearers include nephews, Brett Boltjes, Taylor Boltjes, Bryan Boltjes, Jeff Cupp, Brian Robyn, and Derek Schubert.

Visitation will be at the Worthington Christian Reformed Church on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from 5-7 p.m.
